Skull Investigation, Guided Tours, Topography Map, Insects under microscopes!
Join us at the American Museum of Natural History for a day of fun and science! Family Science Day is open house in which families can experience fun and engaging science activities at the museum, such as straw rockets, examining animals skulls and viewing insects under a microscope, to name a few. Meet some of the Urban Advantage staff and educators, interact with other Urban Advantage schools and families and enjoy the amazing exhibits and sights at the American Museum of Natural History, including some of our paid exhibits like Senses, Unseen Oceans and the Dark Universe.
Family Science Days serve as a kickoff to our Urban Advantage program year, and is meant to get our schools, students and families excited about science and to create a memorable experience at our museums, gardens and zoos. Each of our eight UA institutions hosts a Family Science Day during the month of October. It is our hope that Family Science Day will spark student interest in science and inspire them to return to our institutions on their own.
How to attendLocation:
Also check in with your school’s Parent Coordinator to see if they are travelling to Family Science Day via bus.
When you arrive: Our Family Science Day will be held in the Davis Classrooms, located on the second floor of the museum. The best entrances to use are the main museum entrance on Central Park West and the Weston Pavilion on Columbus Avenue and 79th Street. When you arrive at check-in, you will exchange your Family Science Day Flyer (issued by your UA Science Teacher or Parent Coordinator) for a general admission ticket and a map with directions to the Davis Classrooms. There will also be signs posted to assist you in reaching Family Science Day.
Families can attend Family Science Day by using an Urban Advantage Family Science Day flyer. These flyers are given to Urban Advantage teachers in September. Each flyer is good for up to 4 people to attend ONE Family Science Day event. Please note that the Family Science Day flyers can be used ONLY for scheduled Family Science Day events. Families can also reach out to their school’s Parent Coordinator to learn if they are planning a group visit to Family Science Day.
