Family Science Day at Brooklyn Botanic Garden!

12:00 PM – Cactus Dissection and Desert Exploration – How do plants survive
in these dry places? Find out more about the desert environment and
the cool plants that live there as we look inside (!) the plants
themselves. What desert plants do you know?

1:00 PM – Leaves in the Rainforest – Explore the rainforest environment and
discover special traits of the plants that live there. What makes this
place and these plants so special? Find out with us as we explore
them in closer detail. What tropical plants do you know?

2:00 PM – Exploring Carnivorous Plants from the Discovery Garden – Have
you seen our Discovery Garden? It is a place of exploration and
excitement! Meet one of our garden educators as we are introduced
to some carnivorous plant friends. What do you think we’ll find inside
when we dissect one?

Family Science Days serve as a kickoff to our Urban Advantage program year, and is meant to get our schools, students and families excited about science and to create a memorable experience at our museums, gardens and zoos. Each of our eight UA institutions hosts a Family Science Day during the month of October. It is our hope that Family Science Day will spark student interest in science and inspire them to return to our institutions on their own.
