NYSCI Virtual Field Trip Bundle

Fee: 1 Blue “Class Visit” Voucher

Bring the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) to your online classroom with the exciting Science of Sports Virtual Field Trip Bundle. With your 1 “Class Visit” Voucher you will receive two 45-minute video conferencing sessions in which a NYSCI educator will lead you and your students through a fun, hands-on exploration of STEM concepts using common household materials. You’ll also receive 3 post-connection activities to extend the learning beyond the live connections.
Age or Grade Band: 4 – 8; Physics

This field trips supports:
Grade 4: 4-PS3-2; 4-PS3-4, 4-LS1-2 Middle School: MS-PS2-1; MS-PS2-2; MS-PS3-1; MS-PS3-2; MS-PS3-5 ; MS-LS1-8

Science of Sports
How does science play a role in sports? From energy transfer to depth perception, science influences our ability to play and enjoy sports in more ways than you might think! In the first live session, we will examine the relationship between kinetic and potential energy, test our reaction time and explore the physics behind our favorite sports skills.

In the second session, we’ll answer the question “Which senses help you in playing sports?” We will do different experiments to challenge these senses and discover the many structures of the eye and how they function to help us see. We’ll also investigate depth perception and test our balancing skills and center of gravity, all while discovering how this relates back to sports.
